Why EULYNX gateway is important and good for interlocking and signalling asset management?
Relesoft has been born because of EULYNX. It is a good foundation because open interoperability is an ambition for many railway infrastructure managers cross the Europe and world. EULYNX gateway has been an idea and design for group of smart signalling experts and asset managers. These people from Sweco Finland and FTIA (Finnish Transport and Infrastructure Agency) got a strong vision of EULYNX compatibility also for Relay based interlocking. All the background discussions and thoughts are not in my knowledge. This is why it is better for me to stick in the facts that I am aware. First important topic: Value of interoperability for life cycle management of signalling system. When relay based interlocking is connected to remote control system with EULYNX SCI-CC happens an interesting enabler. Traffic management can control old relay based interlocking and modern ERTMS (or Class B) system with same traffic management system. Naturally TCS has to be upgraded to be aligned with SCI-CC as well.
Second topic: This improvement in interoperability opens a possibility to extend relay based systems´ life cycle when needed in good manner. It also opens a door to procure future extensions, object controllers, etc. from the market with an open tender. This leads to competition and reduced prices. Most likely quality will increases accordingly at the same time.
So, if summarized, EULYNX SCI-CC is something everyone should demand for the coming signalling installations. This is the best way to foster quality and stand in line of smart asset managers. It is important that this is not seen as a technical signalling detail. Whole organisation has to be aware about the consequences if the path of open, EULYNX, interoperability is chosen or not.
